1. Children are at extremely low risk from Covid-19
Children have a tiny risk of getting seriously ill or dying from Covid-19. [1]
Most children who catch Covid-19 will have no symptoms at all, or only very mild symptoms. [2]
Healthy children are at almost no risk from Covid-19. [3] Covid-19 has accounted for less than 1% of all childhood deaths since 2020, the majority of those being in children with chronic underlying illnesses. Admissions to hospital or intensive care are very rare. [4]
There has been a disproportionate media focus on children developing ‘Long Covid’, which has caused some concern – but again, the risk of this is much lower than for adults and it is much shorter-lasting. [5]
Statistically speaking, your child is more likely to be hit by lightning than die of Covid-19. [6] It’s also significantly less dangerous for them than the flu. [7]
